A Bathroom Dialogue

My sixth graders came in today, a group of them raising their hands, practically doing the potty dance.

"Mr. Williams, I need to pee."

Another hand went up.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I need to pee!"

Pee! Urine! It's about to come out! All came bursting from their lips.

"Why is it," I began to ask, "that you all have to pee every time you walk into this classroom?"

"Cuz it's the end of the day..." one of them said.

"We've been holding it," another sixth grader said.

"They chain us to the tables at lunch and make us beg," the shortest one, in the back, called out.

"Okay," I said. "To end this, why don't we line up like kindergarteners and take a potty break."

"OKAY!" They all yelled out, and rushed up to the door, ready to go.

And they all had a jaunty-jibe as they walked to the restroom.
