At first, my dream was to become a novelist. I've been writing since I was a kid, and it was what I always insisted I become. So it is written...and whatever else Ramses says in "The Ten Commandments."
Then my wife had me walk through an art gallery in Charleston a few years ago. The ripple effect turned into a wave with white caps, and it capsized my writer's journey.
While I'm still trying to fasten the pin that says "artist" to my shirt so I seem legit, I have fully accepted the role of illustrator and designer.
Welcome to my digital studio.
As a journalism teacher, I've been teaching design trends and basic principles to middle school students for over 16 years. I've been able to practice what I preach as the secretary and designer for a nonprofit in my city of Anderson, Ind. called A Town Center. It's a gallery space that features artists in residence, guest artists, classes, concerts, and many more events that bring the community together using the arts. During the month of August 2019, I got to fill the role of guest artist for my very first show: Of Monsters and Produce.
Joining the board of directors has allowed me to leave my writing behind for a while to pick up a pencil, pen, brush, or marker and take on the joy of painting and illustration. While I continue to work on pieces of my own, some for fun, others for sale at my shop, I want to continue my journey as a graphic designer as well.
My forte is in event design, branding and logos. If that's something you need, perhaps we can work together.
Until then, I'll be over there if you need me.
